In this day of multiple genders, I realised it could be a little tricky to write an article about the masculine and feminine energies which have always been a part of our existence.
These are but two of the terms we’ve always known them by and of course there are other ways to describe them. I hope though that you’ll accept my use of multiple terms for the purposes of this blog, as it does seem to express and encompass the multiple aspects of these energies and how they feel to each individual.
When I think of these energies I think of them as polarities, of hard and soft, light and dark, yin and yang – we are really talking about two opposites which need to be in balance for us to exist, function, create and move forwards on our path.
For many years there has been a move to work with the sacred feminine, the Goddess; to push that gentle, creative, nurturing, yin energy to the fore and to soften the hardness of the patriarchal society we have lived in for so long.
Dean and I are a partnership in all things, as many of you know. I am mainly the yang energy and Dean is mainly the yin in this relationship. If one of us is coming too much from emotion or yin, without the benefit of thought or consideration, then the other usually steps in to bring the balance needed to make a decision or find a solution.
We’re lucky in that respect, because this has worked well for us and has mostly allowed us to understand how to balance the yin and yang, the masculine and feminine energies, to allow us to go with the flow these days, without too many bumps and false starts. It has taken many years for us to comfortably get to this point and it was not without its struggles, so don’t feel that you must or will find the solution in a few minutes!
But of course we are always trying to find our point of balance not just in our relationship, but in ourselves, because our own balance is the most important element for our own personal growth and life path.
Living in the yin or feminine energy is a beautiful, creative and nurturing place to be. It feels lovely when I write about it! We all need this energy and the world definitely needs a lot more of it. But we cannot be in the yin energy alone. We also need yang energy to bring direction, action, grounding and more than anything, balance.
If we live purely in yin energy we may find it hard to make a decision, to stand on our own two feet, to discipline ourselves, to create boundaries and to direct our lives. Most of all we may find it hard to be grounded.
Living purely in the yang or masculine energy can make us lacking in empathy and compassion, hard headed, selfish, lacking in creativity and unwilling to consider anyone but ourselves, our business and our bank balance. Maybe a bit extreme, but I think you get the picture.
As I write this, I think you’ll also get the picture of our world, which a lot of the time is dominated by yang energy; the hard headed energy that is science but not the heart centred energy of love; business and money, but not love; self and ego, but not higher self and love!
We cannot have one without the other!
And as with the illustration we are so familiar with of the yin and the yang joined in perfect harmony, so we cannot ignore our masculine or yang side, in favour of living in an all female community or living only from the heart. Our attempts to embrace purely the feminine or the Goddess energies do come from the heart, but they need to be balanced in order that we can move forwards in our lives. We need at times to be assertive, decisive and business minded to make our creative and beautiful ideas, that come out of the yin energy, a reality.
So if you are living gloriously in the yin or Goddess energies, but feeling as if your life is not going anywhere or that you are living in lack or fear, perhaps you need to face your fear of the masculine or yang, and begin to work with balancing these energies.
Undoubtedly many of the things we do not incorporate into our lives are left out because of a fear of them or a lack of understanding and these are often the things we need to consider and explore. We do sometimes need to challenge ourselves to bring change and now is the time to do this.
This is the time, more than any, when we need to step into our fears and overcome them for change to take place.
Find your point of balance and work from the heart, work with intention, ground yourself daily and you can create change and the life you desire!
And finally, if you are looking for tangible tools to make this change happen, the Soul Harmonics vibrational essences Balance and Integration can be helpful tools on the path to change and transformation.
Enjoy!
