Exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) or radiation (EMR) is not a new phenomenon, however, over the last 50 years, environmental exposure to man-made EMF has been steadily increasing as growing electricity demand, ever-advancing technologies and changes in social behaviour have created more and more artificial sources.
I’m of a generation before mobile phones, home computers and the public internet! That makes me sound very old. In actual fact I had my first desktop computer in 1991 and first mobile phone around 25 years ago – a mere blip in the ocean of time. I can also remember the very early microwaves in the 1970’s and the controversy at that time about the safety of this technology.
Looking back, my father’s assurances that microwaves and radiation were perfectly safe came from a time before longer term research has shown us the truth. My Dad worked with these technologies in the aerospace industry from the 1950s and always wore a radiation detection badge. He died at 75 from stomach and liver cancer and one has to wonder whether his working life was a factor.
These days we are so used to seeing new phone towers, getting excited about new phone technology, better wi-fi and blue tooth and looking forward to 5G. But what is it doing to our health and the health of future generations?
What is it doing to our health and the health of future generations?
There is an increasing body of research as to the dangers of many of the technologies we now live with and take for granted: I-pads/computers, smart meters, mobile phones, phone towers, 5G and so on. Interestingly if you go to the Australian Government ARPANSA (Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency) website there is a list of all these things and ARPANSA states there is no risk to your health for all of the sources I looked at. https://www.arpansa.gov.au/understanding-radiation/radiation-sources/more-radiation-sources
However, if you begin to search outside of Government websites and the World Health Organisation, who also say this is all safe, you will find the story is very different. Some people are more sensitive to these energies than others, so some will be affected very obviously and others won’t be affected at all. I could get into a whole slightly weird theory here as well about adaptation and genetics, but we can save that for another time.
Prof. Belpomme,Professor of Clinical Oncology, University Paris-Descartes, practices medical Oncology and Environmental Medicine at the Alleray-Labrouste Clinic (Paris). He is also president of ARTAC (Association for Research and Treatment against Cancer) and Chairman of ISDE-France (International Society of Doctors for Environment). This link takes you to a presentation he made in 2011 about the dangers of EMFs as seen in his practice and makes interesting reading.
One of the things that does concern me, through my own work in clinic is the extremely high level of anxiety we see in our world, particularly among young people. Yes, it is busy and competitive. There are challenges to conform, step up, perform, “smile for the camera” and post your wonderful life on facebook, but is there another more insidious reason behind some of these cases? And are ADHD and other forms of emerging behaviour related to our new technologies?
Here’s a list symptoms which people have attributed to being exposed to EMF. I’ve added a couple of items I have also seen in clinic which may arise from EMF exposure. Many so called “experts” and scientists would dispute this list and attribute these symptoms to other causes, however, the proof is often in the results when changes are made in everyday life.
EMF and Health
- sleep problems
- headaches/head pressure
- memory/concentration problems
- heart problems/palpitations
- hyperactivity in children
- behavioural problems
- skin problems
- nausea/digestive problems
- low immunity
- flu-like symptoms
- behaviour problems
- reduced libido
- ocular abnormalities
There is also discussion and research into whether EMF may be a cause of dwindling male fertility:
Technology in the classroom
In our world of technology, computers, laptops and tablets are major tools in schools and again I remember the discussion at our son’s Steiner school around the safety of wi-fi in the classroom. Interestingly I-pads, out of all devices, are said to produce the highest exposure – I’ll leave you to research that one!
With many schools connected to the NBN and using wi-fi in the classroom, your child may have no downtime from exposure. Even your use of your blue tooth system in the car to and from school is exposing them.
What are your options?
When asked about EMF, I always say that we now live in a web of EMF, so it really is unavoidable. Unless we move to the bush and go off grid, we really cannot escape this technology. I also say that I do think over time people adapt, but this has all happened to our civilisation in such a short time that it seems evident that with a combination of toxicity of our water and food sources (eg glyphosate/Round Up, GM foods, artificial hormones), increased levels of vaccination and general air and noise pollution, many children and adults are really struggling and it’s affecting their health on many levels.
Again, some of the technologies and solutions to manage EMF exposure I have read about receive a big thumbs down from the skeptics and some scientists. I can’t decide whether this is because they want us sick to benefit financially, they really are just skeptics to the end and want us to bury our heads in the sand to avoid panic, or there is another more insidious agenda!
Blocking EMF is certainly an option, although can be a major job and limited to what you can paint, cover or wear, so not always useful if you are out and about in the city. You can do your own research on this and decide for yourself.
One of the most interesting and promising technologies in the field of EMF safety is scalar energy which was first discovered in the 1800s by Maxwell and then Tesla in the 1950s. Until recently Tesla’s work was lost or maybe not even written down, but as we’ve come to understand both the complexity and simplicity of this alternate form of energy, new devices and ways to use this energy have emerged. I’m no expert, and again you can do your own research, but this is a technology which rather than blocking, appears to help the body adapt to, release and deflect EMF. Scalar energy devices come in many forms from pendants to phone patches to the Tesla Cube, but interestingly ARPANSA does warn about scalar pendants made from volcanic rock because of the potential for low level natural radiation!
Dean and I did a lot of research into scalar energy and I have used phone patches for over a decade – some obviously work and some really don’t, so again do your research if you are considering trying one.
Negative ionisers are said to produce scalar energy or something similar which negates EMF, again the information is a little unclear in places but this looks very promising.
Is Homeopathy Scalar Energy?
The description of scalar energy and how it permeates, grows, expands, becomes stronger over time and helps cells clear and adapt, put me in mind of homeopathy! It is still very unclear as to how homeopathy works. So many people are researching from different aspects, but my understanding has always been that homeopathy is a form of energy. The more I read about scalar energy, the more I had to ask the question “Is homeopathy scalar energy?”
So I did a quick internet search and found a few references to scalar waves and homeopathy, although some a little whacky! I have no doubt that scalar waves, like homeopathy, stand outside the understanding of conventional science at this point and this was evident when I contacted www.EMR.com.au to ask why they didn’t make any mention of scalar energy on their website. I had a very rapid response telling me they only work with and offer solutions based on evidence and science! Interesting!!
EMF and nutrition
I’ve collected a little of the available information together on promoting the system’s resilience to EMF. This article by www.emfwise.com is good, but as with anything, supplements and dosages should be as appropriate to the individual and managed by a healthcare professional. My preference is always for food as medicine, so increasing relevant foods in the diet can be a more balanced way to provide support.
Since the type of health issues we see are often related to oxidative stress, anti-oxidants are one suggested food source to increase in the diet.
Vitamin E and C have been studied for their effect and shown a significant impact in rats. Another study by Henry Lai and Narendra Singh at the University of Washington found that EMF-induced DNA damage could be blocked with antioxidants used before and after exposure. There are many food sources of vitamin C and E, such as blue berries and almonds. I’m not so keen on high dose vitamin C supplementation on an ongoing basis because if not required it can have an impact on copper levels, leading to more problems. It’s not hard to increase food sources and I would suggest working with a health care professional if there is a specific situation which needs to be addressed.
Vitamin D – A study showed that in a group of people sensitive to EMF, 70% were low in vitamin D. Sources recommend low dose vitamin D, but again 10 to 15 minutes of sunshine a day without sunscreen or sunglasses is the best source.
Melatonin + Omega-3s were shown to have a neuroprotective effect on the brain in a study by G. Erdem Ko and Dr. Suleyman Kaplan, who found that melatonin used after exposure had a positive effect. Be sure to get a good night’s rest after exposure, in a darkened room. Some foods, like oats and cherries, may provide a natural source of melatonin. For omega-3s increase olive oil, oily fish, nuts, linseed or flaxseed oil and flax seeds.
So EMF and solutions to protect and support appears to be a very controversial subject when you really get down to it. What I do say about things which are potentially dangerous for our health, but the conventional science poo poo and declare as safe, remember what happened with asbestos, cigarettes and Roundup. It’s no good waiting for the proof that something is dangerous – it might be too late, so the best thing is to take steps now to at least be aware.
What can you do?
- Limit exposure time in children – we really don’t know the long-term effects of all this screen time from a very early age. We just haven’t had that amount of time to find out so let’s avoid future regret
- Turn off your router at night if you can
- Don’t sleep with your phone next to your bed or charging in your room
- I’m not keen on FitBit-type devices and smart watches being worn to bed because they also expose you to EMF
- Turn off blue tooth on your phone, computer, in the car, unless you really are using it and I would avoid blue tooth headsets
- Buy yourself a pair of tube headphones, rather than using the wire-to-the-ear type, or use speaker phone.
- Check out where your main power board is and avoid sleeping against this wall (or in this room!)
- Spend plenty of time in nature, in the bush, at the beach because negative ions which are present in these areas are said to be healing and negating of EMF
- Do some research for yourself and become your own expert
- Use our WyldChyld I-Clear vibrational remedy or Electro Emissions room spray after using computers, mobile phones, etc. These two products are one and the same – one oral drops, the other a room spray. The base product has been on our website now for nearly a decade and we are selling increasing quantities as people become aware. This is one of those “the proof is in the results” products.
- Ask for some individualised help in the form of constitutional treatment as there are plenty more things we can do with homeopathy to damp down symptoms and tune up immune systems.
No doubt many of you younger generation of parents will not want to read this, although I’m sure most of you have read something about EMF. This is going to be your future inheritance and as I said above, 10 or 20 years down the track it is too late to regret not having taken some steps to protect yourself. How much we can really protect ourselves is unclear, but keep abreast of what is happening and if you have children, send them outside to play in nature as often as you can and keep screen time to a minimum!
