Mini Kit – Surgery & Procedures

$129.95

This little kit of 10 remedies offers support for surgery and procedures with remedies included to help reduce anxiety and aid the recovery process.

Description

A medical procedure, particularly an unplanned surgery such as a caesarean section or an accident can be very stressful.

In the case of a planned surgery it may be stressful for the whole lead up, so there is more time for anxiety and anticipation about what is to come, how the medical team are going to be and how the recovery will go. Sometimes it’s a stressful and anxious process for the family who anticipate the outcomes and await the news.

Much surgery these days, for example hip or knee replacements, is scripted and well planned, and the process generally goes smoothly. For those who are not comfortable with taking medications or are fearful of the process, it can be overwhelming, particularly when presented with the before and after instructions and the take-home pack of drugs.

Homeopathy can be such a great support during these times and a little preparation beforehand can go a long way to reducing anxiety and help enormously with the recovery process.

Here’s a post we wrote on the topic, which covers a broader range of remedies.

FAQs

Drops or Pilules?

Pilules are always easy to throw into a hospital bag or handbag, however, there are situations where a patient may be unconscious or the surgeon may specify nil by mouth. In this case drops are going to be best because they are easy to apply to pulse spots such as wrists or temples, or just on the lips.

Remedies for surgery, procedures and healing are always best taken orally and have their best action this way. Creams may be difficult to apply and some should not be applied to an open wound or where the skin is grazed or broken.

See under ‘Nil by Mouth’ for how to administer pilules if you need a liquid remedy and don’t have one.

How often?

Usually we say to give the remedy until the symptoms settle and repeat if they reappear. Since this can make for a bumpy ride in the treatment of acutes, my recommendation is to give your doses quite frequently to start with – hourly or even every 10 minutes for up to 5 doses if the situation is quite intense.

Once things settle down you can reduce to hourly, 2 hourly and then 3 or 4 times a day if you feel the same remedy is still required.

For bruising or surgery to bones, eg knee or hip replacements, dental surgery, you may need to repeat remedies like Arnica or Ruta for a few days to a week or more.

Will my remedies interact?

We know that homeopathics don’t interact with conventional medicines because of the way they work, so no, they are not going to interact. Your surgeon may not be keen on you having anything for 24 hours after your op and in this case, where that timeframe is super important for best outcomes, you can apply your remedy (or a family member can) to any pulse spots, eg wrists, temples, or even just wet the lips with the remedy.

Nil by mouth

Likely you will have nil by mouth before surgery or a procedure and probably for a little while afterwards, so drops can be a good option. You can put the drops on the pulse points, temples, top of the head or around the lips.

You can also add your pilules (1 or 2 pilules) to ¼ glass of water or a water bottle, stir vigorously or shake, then do the same as above. If that’s not possible, just crush a pilule and apply where it seems appropriate.

Remember we are working with something that has a unique energetic frequency, so it’s a bit like being in contact with a mobile phone, rather than taking a pharmaceutical drug. The remedy works dynamically which is why it will often work quickly.

What’s in the Kit?

We’ve selected the 10 most generally useful remedies for a range of surgeries and procedures.

Kit Contents

Here is a brief rundown on what the remedies in the kit might be useful for. All of these remedies have many applications and some lateral thinking and extra reading will help you get the most out of your mini kit.

  1. Surgery Support This combination has been around in our clinic and for sale in our store since around 2001. It includes remedies traditionally indicated to assist with healing and to promote recovery after any type of surgery, including caesarean, dental, hip and knee replacement, lip and tongue-tie, and similar. The remedies are those most indicated to assist in some of the situations that may be experienced through a surgery such as bruising, bleeding, general trauma, healing and to help to keep the recovery process on track. The Surgery Support combination also contains remedies to assist with the occasional side effects of and reactions to anaesthetic. We have also included SOS – our version of Rescue Remedy to help with pre-surgery nerves, anxiety, shock and similar and we do always suggest starting a day or two before your procedure.
  2. CRUX There are so many procedures that we are subjected to these days; MRI, CT Scan, Ultrasound and X-ray (including dental) to name a few, but not all! We created this mix of traditional and non-traditional remedies to cover all the energetics of these situations. When you’re unwell and about to undergo treatment or surgery, you don’t want to challenge your immune system any more than necessary.
  3. Aconite 200c: Ailments after a shock eg cardiac arrest under anaesthetic. This might apply to the patient or the family! Shock, fright and anxiety are prominent often with great fear (sometimes of dying) and restlessness. Panic attacks after fright, palpitations. Symptoms are sudden, acute, intense and painful. Very high fevers with dry burning heat or drenching sweat with unquenchable thirst. Very thirsty for cold drinks.
  4. Arnica 200c: First remedy after accident or injury and for surgery to reduce shock, bleeding and bruising. For swelling, soreness, broken bones (follow with Symphytum 200c and Calc Phos 6x or use our Broken Bones & Fractures Combination), slipped disc, spinal injury (follow with Hypericum 200c).Arnica has a good effect on the mental and emotional level, so for shock, trauma, violence to mind or body, bleeding of small wounds. It’s in the Surgery Support combo, so you get that level of cover throughout.Useful following surgery to assist with bruising and bleeding. Pain will be sore, bruised, aching and the patient doesn’t want to be touched or assisted. Will often say they feel fine despite serious injury or major surgery. Very restless. For fish hooks and similar wounds (with Hypericum) especially those which require stitching. If in doubt, always use Arnica as your initial first aid remedy.
  5. Calendula – Useful for treatment of lacerated and suppurating, raw, open and inflamed wounds. Known traditionally for its antiseptic powers. May help control bleeding from a wound and soothe wound pain. Promotes healthy healing of wounds and ulcers and may help resolve scar tissue. Can be used alongside antibiotics if required. Wounds that don’t heal.

  7. Carbo Veg – Known traditionally as “the corpse reviver” this remedy acts upon the venous circulation assisting with oxygenation of the blood.  Useful in collapse states where the patient is almost lifeless; air hunger, drowning, asthma attacks and useful for smoke inhalation. Also useful after surgery to the abdominal area or generally where there is a lot of gas and it is very uncomfortable. Generally the patient may want to be fanned.
  8. China officinalis – Is a useful remedy where there is weakness due to loss of fluids, such as from diarrhea, vomiting, blood loss or dehydration. Often with this picture there may be excess gas in the abdomen.

Interactions with conventional medications

If pain persists and other pain relief is required, give as per the directions on the bottle.

  • Then 3 or 4 times a day for up to one week after surgery or as required for recovery.
